As outlined by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles in their official guidance titled “When You Need to File a Crash Report,” drivers in New York State must file a crash report under specific conditions following an accident. Failing to do so could result in the suspension of your driving privileges.
Under Section 605 of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, drivers are required to submit a MV-104 Motorist Report if anyone is injured or killed, or if property damage from the crash exceeds $1,000. This report must be mailed to the address listed on the second page of the form. Not submitting the required documentation could result in the DMV suspending your license.
