According to the National Apartment Association in their article “New Legislation Affecting New York’s Rental Market: The Good Cause Eviction Law,” a new law enacted in April of 2024 means landlords must now prove “good cause” when they are going to evict a tenant.

“As part of the 2025 Fiscal Year budget, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law significant legislation affecting the New York City and State rental market,” the National Apartment Association said.
