As reported by WGRZ in the article “If you drive under a travel ban, you will be ticketed, Erie County Executive says,” extreme winter weather has led to widespread travel bans and road closures across Western New York, with local authorities cracking down on violators. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz emphasized that driving under these bans can result in a Class B misdemeanor. 

Blizzard conditions have made roads throughout Erie, Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee counties nearly impassable, with wind gusts reaching up to 72 mph. Traffic cameras show visibility at zero in many areas due to blowing snow. The severity of the storm has led the NFTA to suspend all Metrorail and bus services, and the Buffalo airport was forced to shut down due to dangerous airfield conditions.
