As reported in the 2024 Nurse Salary and Work-Life Report by Nurse.com, the issue of workplace violence against nurses remains both widespread and deeply troubling. According to the report, 23% of nurses have experienced physical assault, while 64% have endured verbal abuse from patients or their families. A separate study even described workplace violence as a “pandemic,” estimating that 8% to 38% of nurses experience such incidents during their careers.

The impact is more than physical. Victims of workplace violence often suffer long-term psychological effects such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. These conditions not only hinder a nurse’s ability to deliver care but also contribute to burnout, job dissatisfaction, and increasing numbers of nurses leaving the profession altogether.
